VFC – A long tradition of safeguarding resources.

Fish meal – in demand as a protein source in aquaculture.

Fish meal and fish oils have been produced in Cuxhaven on the North Sea coast since 1912. In 1983 the Vereinigten Fischmehlwerke Cuxhaven (VFC) was formed from the merger of two forerunners of the industry. Working closely with the fish processing industry, the company processes fresh fish pieces and fish waste from Germany and neighbouring countries to manufacture fish oils and fish meal of the highest ecological and hygiene standards. This method of obtaining the products means that no extra fishing is needed. The oils and fats are much in demand in industrial applications, such as lubricants and release agents, dubbin and in the manufacture of animal foods and fodder for farm animals, but they are also used for the species-appropriate breeding of aquacultures.

The need to safeguard resources is not just a national issue: VFC is also using its expertise in EU projects.
